Deepa Bhatia

Deepa Bhatia’s career spans over two decades, marked by a deep commitment to the craft of storytelling. After completing a media studies course at Sophia Polytechnic, she began her journey in the film industry as an assistant director to the renowned Govind Nihalani. This early experience laid the groundwork for her transition into editing, where she honed her skills editing notable films like Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Dev, and Deham. As an editor, she has worked with a diverse range of filmmakers, contributing to critically acclaimed films such as Taare Zameen Par, Rock On!!, Kai Po Che, and My Name Is Khan. Her precision in editing and her ability to shape narratives have made her one of the most sought-after editors in the industry.

As her career evolved, Deepa expanded her creative horizons into producing and directing documentaries. She now collaborates closely with her partner, Amole Gupte, and together they run two production companies that focus on creating features, commercials, series, and films for the social sector. Her recent directorial venture, First Act, a six-part documentary series on the pressures faced by child actors, was released on Amazon Prime Video in 2023 and received critical acclaim. Her passion for social issues and storytelling is evident in her work, and her films have garnered numerous awards and recognition at national and international festivals.

Deepa’s work continues to resonate with audiences, and her commitment to exploring the complex intersections of film, society, and personal narratives remains at the heart of everything she does.
